Immunizations

About this Service:

The Immunizations Clinic provides routine vaccine services for TRICARE Prime patients enrolled to the clinic. Other eligible beneficiaries (TRICARE Prime not enrolled to the clinic, TRICARE Select, TRICARE for Life, Reservists, and National Guard) may receive immunizations services under certain conditions.  For questions on eligibility, please contact the Immunizations Clinic.

Clinic Operations:

  • Immunizations are available on a walk in basis when part of a recommended, standardized immunization schedule. Immunizations can also be ordered by your primary care provider.
  • The clinic provides consultation and administration of clinically indicated, age-appropriate immunizations.
  • The clinic provides vaccines when required for medical readiness and OCONUS deployment, PCS, or TAD.  When necessary, the clinic can provide or update the International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (commonly known as the “yellow shot card”).
Special Considerations:
  • Allergy shots are not provided nor given by this clinic.
  • Booster vaccinations for school and college can be given without a prescription if immunization records are available and brought in at the time of the visit.
  • If you are Tricare Select and being seen by an outside provider, you will need a prescription from your primary care provider for the vaccine and immunizations records, except for seasonal influenza.
  • Tuberculin Skin Tests are not placed on Thursdays since the results need to be evaluated 2-3 days later.
  • Reservists and National Guard are eligible for immunizations services only when in an Active Duty status.

Influenza Vaccine Update

Active duty and Guard/Reserve members are required to get the flu vaccine.
Due to current supply shortages, all unvaccinated ADSMs who have not been instructed to receive their vaccine at an upcoming NMRTCNE mass vaccination event, are highly encouraged to receive their influenza vaccine from TRICARE retail pharmacies, using your military ID card. For a list of authorized pharmacies near you, enter your zip code in the below link. https://militaryrx.express-scripts.com/find-pharmacy.
ADSMs with orders to deploy to an operational command should contact the clinic 401-841-2821/7452 to determine if there is available vaccine supply to be vaccinated at the clinic.  TRICARE retail pharmacies are a secondary option should flu vaccine not be available at NMRTCNE.
When you get a flu vaccine from anywhere besides NMRTCNE Newport, follow your Service policy guidance for recording the vaccine in your shot record.  ADSMs receiving medical care from NMRTCNE Newport can submit physical documentation to the Immunizations clinic or local electronic submission processes.
 You'll need the following information:
  • The date the vaccine was given
  • The vaccine name or code
  • Manufacturer
  • Lot number

Active Duty Family Members (ADFMs):

  • NMRTCNE Newport currently has vaccine available for those under 3 years old (6-35 months) and those 65 years old and above.
  • Due to current supply shortages, all other unvaccinated TRICARE eligible ADFMs, are highly encouraged to receive their influenza vaccine from their network provider or TRICARE retail pharmacies, using your military ID card. For a list of authorized pharmacies near you, enter your zip code in the below link. https://militaryrx.express-scripts.com/find-pharmacy.  NMRTCNE does not endorse any specific pharmacy; however, local pharmacies accepting TRICARE-eligible pediatric patients should be aware of the pediatric age guidance associated with several of the local pharmacies accepting TRICARE patients:
    • Walgreens in Tiverton, RI – flu vaccination for ages 3+ and older
    • Walgreens in Middletown, RI – flu vaccination for ages 3+ and older
    • CVS East Main Middletown, RI – flu vaccination for ages 9+ and older
    • Walmart Middletown, RI – flu vaccination for ages  18+ and older
